Are you looking to build
a frame around your mats but are not sure where to start? Here are
some things to help you.
1) Never
build a room to fit your mats! The mats are made of foam.
Therefore, they will vary slightly in length and width. If you
build a room to fit the mats, chances are you will not get a perfect
fit!
2)
If you would like to frame in your mats
you can use our Mat Framing Kit.
3) If
you would like to make your own frame, a lot of people find the 1 x
4 lumber works really well. If you like you can bevel one edge to
minimize tripping. However, you can use what ever trim fits your
schools needs.
4) Always
finish staining or painting you trim before you install it.
Pre-drill holes in your trim a maximum of 18" apart. Put the holes
closer together if you are using a soft wood.
5)
Lay the lumber snuggly next to the mats
and anchor it to the floor. Use wood screw if you are going into a
wood floor or tapcon screws if you are going into concrete. You
will need to pre-drill the hole in the concrete before you put the
screw in. You will need to rent a hammer drill if you don’t have
one when drilling into concrete.
6)
Use a miter box or chop saw to bevel
the trim to go around corners. This will give your trim a more
finished look.
7)
Make sure the trim height is slightly
lower than the mat height. This will minimize any injuries do to
falls by the edge of the mat.
8)
Enjoy the nicely finished edge of your
mats!
